La Vida Breve

La Vida Breve, Manuel de Falla – CD Sample
“In 2011, I met Rafael through friends in common and discovered the wonderful sound of the classical guitar. Both of us are passionate about Spanish and South American music (he is from Spain, a part of my family comes from Argentina), we decided to explore the possibilities to arrange our favorite pieces for cello and guitar. Not a single piece of our programme has originally been written for cello and guitar. They are transcription of pieces for orchestra, piano and voice, piano and cello, piano solo or in the case of the works by Gismonti and Assad, for Jazz band or trio of two guitars and clarinet. “La Vida Breve” means the short life, it is the name of Manuel de Falla’s most famous opera. We chose this title for our project with the aim to celebrate the famous “Carpe Diem” (seize the day, trusting as little as possible in the next day) but also as an allusion to our own young age and the youthful energy and spontaneity with which we imagined this project.”Nadège Rochat
